WJAC-TV: State Police to Discuss Remains Found in Creek

PUNXSUTAWNEY  – Pennsylvania State Police have planned a news conference to announce details of their investigation into human remains found in a Jefferson County creek over the weekend.

Troopers have scheduled the briefing for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Punxsutawney barracks, not far from where remains of an unidentified Caucasian man were found Sunday in Mahoning Creek in the village of Hamilton.

State police officials say details of the rapidly developing investigation will be announced at the news conference, but not before.

It was not immediately clear how police were notified of the remains, some of which were recovered by dive teams. Authorities have released very few details about the investigation but have classified the incident as criminal homicide.

Police said the Punxsutawney Central Fire Department Dive Team helped in the recovery effort. The Jefferson County Coroner is also assisting with the investigation.
