Florence Eva (Yarger) Thompson, 94, of Tallmadge, Ohio and formerly of Zephyrhills, Fla. and West Decatur died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at the home of her daughter Elaine Tackett in Tallmadge, Ohio.
She was the daughter of the late Jesse and Sarah (Davis) Yarger born Oct. 16, 1918 in (Sanborn) RD Houtzdale. She married Leo M. Thompson on Aug. 10, 1940 in West Decatur. He preceded her in death Sept. 18, 1995.
Mrs. Thompson was of the United Methodist faith.
She was a 1936 graduate of Houtzdale High School and graduated from Lock Haven State Teacher’s College with a Bachelor’s degree in education.
She began her career in a one-room school house, later teaching eighth grade at Gearhartville and going on to second grade at West Decatur Elementary, where she also assumed the duties of principal. She finished her career at Wallaceton- Boggs Elementary again as a principal and second grade teacher.
She was an avid dancer and square dancing was her passion. She was a long-time member of Chinklacamoose Squares, and she and her husband continued dancing after retiring to Betmar Acres in Zephyrhills, Fla. in 1981.
She was an active, vibrant individual who participated in many of the activities offered at Betmar. She especially enjoyed card parties with friends and crossword puzzles. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in the United States and were fortunate to visit many foreign countries.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doreen Eboch, five sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Elaine K. Tackett of Tallmadge, Ohio and two brothers, Eugene Yarger and his wife, Patricia of Philipsburg and Duane Yarger and his wife, Wilma of Centre Hall.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, Suzanne South, Cindy White, Leo Eboch, Pamela Rosneck and Nicole Logan; nine great-grandchildren, Joe White, Tom South, Angie White, Emily Eboch, Zack Eboch, Katie Rosneck, Justin and John McKenzie and Tim Logan; and two great-great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills, with Pastor Jennifer C. Heikes officiating. Burial will be at the Crown Crest Cemetery in Hyde.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service Friday at the funeral home.
