CLEARFIELD – Motorists on Route 322 (Port Matilda Highway) in Rush Township, Centre County, will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit after PennDOT placed a radar-controlled speed display sign. The placement will raise awareness of the 55-mile-per-hour speed limit in this area and aid in curbing a common type of aggressive driving.
The sign faces westbound traffic on Route 322. The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign.
Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of accidents and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.
Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as an accident cause in more than 57 percent of Centre County accidents in 2012.
