Doris LaBant Mick, 79 of Houtzdale died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
Born May 20, 1934 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of Steve and Mary Anderson LaBant.
She was a member of the First Church of God, Brisbin, where she loved to sing in the choir.
In 1952, she graduated from Houtzdale-Woodward-Brisbin High School.
She’d been employed as a secretary for Sahlaney Furniture, Houtzdale, and Kitko Dairy, Amesville. She’d also worked as a nurse’s aide at the Presbyterian Home, Philipsburg, and was the main caregiver to her father for 15 years.
She’s survived by a son, Gregg Mick of Houtzdale; a daughter, Shelley Mick and her companion, Leslie Fries of Pasadena, MD; and a nephew, Douglas Labant and his wife, Cindy of Wilmington, DE.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Steven LaBant Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Church of God, Brisbin, with the Rev. Andrew Griffith officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brisbin.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.
