Emigh Run Bridge in Hawk Run Posted with Weight Restrictions

CLEARFIELD – On Sept. 6 PennDOT posted weight limits on the Route 1009 (Deer Creek Road) bridge in the village of Hawk Run. Weight limits for the bridge are 33 tons for single vehicles and 40 tons for combination loads. Signs bearing those restrictions are now in place on the bridge.

The Hawk Run Bridge spans Emigh Run and carries an average of nearly 2,300 vehicles daily. The bridge was built in 1936 and is 48 feet long.

Reducing the weight traveling on this bridge will slow its deterioration and preserve safety while funding for repairs remains uncertain.

Last month, PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch authorized the transportation department to add or increase weight restrictions to about 1,000 structurally deficient bridges statewide. PennDOT must take this step because of legislative inaction this past June on transportation funding, leaving the department’s future resources in question.
