Effie M. Sankey, 100, of Osceola Mills, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Irvin and Sarah (Woods) Cowfer, born Jan. 4, 1913.  She married Joseph E. Sankey Sr. on Dec. 13, 1930 in Osceola Mills.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1990.

Mrs. Sankey was a member of the Osceola Mills Presbyterian Church, where she was a former member of the board of deacons and was in charge of the Acolytes.  She was also a member of the Center Hill Grange #885 in Morrisdale, and she was the originator of the Vespers Services at the start of the Fourth of July week celebration in Osceola Mills.

She was retired from the former Widmanns Discount Store in Philipsburg where she was the manager.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four daughters, Nancy Brolin, Peggy Owens and two infant daughters; two sisters, Verna Wick and Flossie Crain; one brother, David Cowfer; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a daughter-in-law, Lydia Sankey; and three sons-in-law, Clyde “Bud” Mignot, Richard Williams and Gary Marty.

Mrs. Sankey is survived by five daughters, Betty Ann Haney and her husband, Richard of Drifting, Beverly Mignot of Allport, Judith Bires and her husband, Michael of Philipsburg, Bonnie Marty and her companion, Frank Brennamen of Lewistown and Kathy Olson and her husband, David of Clearfield; four sons, Joseph E. Sankey Jr. of Osceola Mills, Daniel I. Sankey of Houtzdale, John W. Sankey and his wife, Peggy of Chester Hill and Fred H. Sankey and his wife, Jamie of Greenville; 24 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Osceola Mills Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Bruinooge and the Rev. Dr. Mary Jo Bruinooge officiating.  Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Heath Funeral Home in Osceola Mills and from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service Friday at the church.
