KOC 5K Slated for Oct. 13

STATE COLLEGE – The 23rd Annual Knights of Columbus 5K, presented by the Centre County YMCA, will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 13.

Race History

The KOC 5K began in the late 1980’s as a family-oriented run in a residential neighborhood of State College. After a four-year hiatus from 1996 to 1999, the race was revived in 2000 and has regained strength.  Starting in 2005, the KOC races included quarter-mile and half-mile races for kids who are 12 and under.

Race Description

This year the KOC 5K and the Nittany Valley Running Club are partnering with the State College YMCA. The family-friendly race consists of two loops; the 1.55-mile loop is designed, so that you’re able to see family and friends several times during the race. Keeping the race start line near the YMCA and the finish in its parking lot, you will be able to find parking, locker rooms and restrooms, just a few yards away.

The course will take you through lightly traveled side roads, a nice wide bike path through Orchard Park and a 100-foot section across a small walking bridge and trail. With only one turn-around and lightly rolling terrain, this course is sure to be quick and great for beginners through advanced runners. You can see the course map online.

Youth Run

The youth race starts after the finish of the 5K. It takes place in the parking lot of South Hills Business School. Youth who are 7 years old and under will race one loop around the parking lot. And, youth who are 8 to 12 years old will race for three loops around the parking lot.

Registration is $20 for the 5K and $3 for the Youth run. You can pick up a registration form at the State College Family YMCA or online at
