Penn State Named as a Top College for Military Students in Pennsylvania

UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State has been recognized as a top college in Pennsylvania for students who are interested in military service, by the College Database.

The College Database’s list of Top Colleges in Pennsylvania for Future Service Membersincludes 4-year, non-profit, degree-granting institutions that are considered to be both affordable – with annual in-state tuition less than $20,000 – and offer at least two ROTC programs.

Penn State has three ROTC programs for students — Army, Navy and Air Force.

The University’s Air Force ROTC is an educational program designed to prepare undergraduate students for a commission in the Air Force while earning their baccalaureate degree. Four-, three-, and two-year scholarships are available to selected applicants.

Penn State’s Army ROTC program is designed to teach leadership in preparing college students to become commissioned in the United States Army active forces, reserve forces, or the Pennsylvania National Guard upon graduation. The program is designed to to provide each commissioned officer the fundamental concepts and principles necessary to become successful Army officers or civilian leaders. Full tuition scholarships are available to selected applicants.

The University’s Naval ROTC program is designed to prepare undergraduate students for a commission in the Navy or Marine Corps while they earn their baccalaureate degree. This program ensures that all Naval ROTC graduates have a common understanding of the fundamental concepts and principles of Naval Science. Scholarships are available to selected applicants.

“Everyone talks about service members using their GI Bill to go back to school, but rarely do people discuss current students using college to join the service,” said Wes Ricketts, vice president and general manager of The College Database. “Colleges with ROTC programs give students a great opportunity, not only to explore military service, but to gain valuable leadership skills coveted by employers.”

The College Database is a not-for-profit organization whose goal is to provide free information about educational options both nationally and locally to students, parents, and other interested parties.
