DuBois City Discusses Extending Music Fest

DUBOIS – The 2013 Music Fest, which is held at the Edward Cherry Amphitheater, could be extended by one week.

On Monday night, DuBois City council members Jim Aughenbaugh and Randy Schmidt said they had spoken with City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio about paying for an extra week for the music festival.

Council member Diane Bernardo brought up the topic of the music program initially at the meeting.  She explained how brochures for the program this year had been delivered with the water bills and were made available to certain businesses.

“We’ve been averaging 200-300 people on a Thursday,” said Bernardo. There was some debate on whether to change the time and date for the extra week due to the sun setting earlier as the season continues on.

“It seems no matter where I go somebody hits me on it, and says thanks to the city for doing it,” said Suplizio.

In other business, the council awarded the boiler installation bid to Marc Services Inc. at $19,950. The boiler was purchased through the Pennsylvania Costars program.

After a vote passed unanimously by the non-uniformed employees union in favor, the council voted to bring the public works employees into the direct deposit system.  City employees at the city garage, water plant and sewage plant were the last groups not able to go with direct deposits.
