M. Marie Bloom, 83, a resident of Ridgeview Elder Care in Curwensville and formerly of Grampian, died Saturday Aug. 24, 2013 at Ridgeview Elder Care.

Born May 24, 1930 in Altoona, she was the daughter of Boyd and Dorothy (Spencer) Caldwell.

She was a member of St. Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic Church in Grampian. She was also a member of St. Theresa’s Guild and and former member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Grampian.

She was a homemaker.

On July 27, 1948 in Clearfield, she wed James H. Bloom who preceded her in death Oct. 9, 2000.

She is survived by four children, Carol Hahn and her husband, Kenneth of Warren, Alice Coke and her husband, Damon of Tennessee and John A. Bloom and his wife, Cheryl and Lois Carns and her husband, James of Grampian.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Kenneth Hahn and his wife, Lori, Laurie Kent, Michael Hahn, Darlene Coke, Jeff Coke and his wife, Dede, Stacy Best and her husband, Jason, James Carns Jr. and his wife, Amber and Daniel Carns and his wife, Courtney and eight great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Hahn, Naomi Hahn, Joshua Kent, Christopher Kent, Daxton Coke, Gracie Coke, Jacie Best and Noelle Carns.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a son, Daniel Bloom; brothers, Chester and Walter Caldwell, and a sister, Sedona Shindledecker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic Church in Grampian, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Friends Cemetery in Grampian.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville and from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. Wednesday when the procession will depart for the church.

The rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Tuesday by members of St. Theresa’s Guild of St. Bonaventure Church; a Scripture Vigil service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday; and members of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 632 will have a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Community Care Group of Ridgeview Elder Care, 30 Fourth Ave., Curwensville, PA 16833, the American Cancer Society, or the American Diabetes Association.
