Labor Day Weekend Programs Slated at Sinnemahoning

AUSTIN – The Sinnemahoning State Park is offering a variety of environmental programs and activities for the Labor Day weekend.

Saturday, Aug. 31

2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Stream Study

Wade into the cool water to catch crayfish and other stream-dwelling animals. It is for all ages.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Nets, buckets and identification charts are provided.  Water shoes or boots are recommended.  This free family program will be held at the 40 Maples Day Use Area.

5 p.m. – 7 p.m., Eagle Watch

The young eaglets are growing bigger and flying stronger every day.  Can you spot them as they catch their own fish?  View live eagle activity through binoculars or spotting scope with the help of park staff and volunteers.  Meet at the eagle watch station located near the Boat Launch Area of George B. Stevenson Reservoir.

7:30 p.m. – 9 p.m., Foxes, Coyotes, and Wolves

Learn about these fascinating predators and the adaptations the help them to survive.  Campfire talk followed by a 30-minute video, Audubon’s “Wolf Adventures.”  This free family oriented program is open to the public and will be held at the Campground Amphitheater.

Sunday, Sept. 1

12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., Interpretive Pontoon Boat Tours

Join the park staff for a relaxing and informative 45-minute tour of the George B. Stevenson Reservoir. This program focuses on the birds, plants and wildlife of lake and wetland habitats. The pontoon boat has 18 available seats. Tours are offered free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Advance reservations are recommended and may be made by calling the park office at 814-647-8401. Rides begin at 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Meet at the Boat Launch Area 15 minutes prior to program time.
