Albert E. “Ed” Wood, 78, of “Hudson” Philipsburg died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
He was the son of the late Albert and Isabel (Sankey) Wood, born May 27, 1935 in Philipsburg. He married the former JoAnn Mayhue on Jan. 1, 1954 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philipsburg. She survives at home.
Mr. Wood was a life-long member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Philipsburg. He was also a member of the B.P.O. Elks #1173, a life member of the Reliance Fire Company and a member of the Moshannon Lodge #391 Free & Accepted Masons, all of Philipsburg. He was also a member of the Williamsport Consistory, the Osceola Mills Community Historical Foundation, the Central District Firemen’s Association and the Life Underwriters Association.
Until his retirement in 2012, Mr. Wood was an insurance salesman for Baltimore Life and GBU Insurance Companies. He was a 1953 graduate of the Philipsburg High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a sister, Shirley Schnarrs and an infant grandson.
Along with his wife, Mr. Wood is survived by: three daughters, Cheryl A. Smith and her husband, Earl R. of Sandy Ridge, Kathie Dunmeyer and her husband, Rodney of Donora and Susan Arnold and her husband, Jack of Osceola Mills; a son, Edward A. Wood and his wife, Pamela J. of Philipsburg; and two brothers, Robert Wood and his wife, Marcella of Philipsburg and Jerry Wood and his wife, Connie of Shrewsbury.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Earl E. Smith and his wife, Melanie of Roanoke, VA, David Smith and his companion, Sonja McKay of Sandy Ridge, Retta Dunmeyer and Chrystal Dunmeyer, both of Donora, Andrew J. Arnold and his wife, Heather of Clarksville, TN, Gregory Wood and his wife, Shannon of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ashley Wood of Philipsburg; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Hank Schnarrs Jr. of Philipsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home in Philipsburg, with the Rev. Gerald Krum officiating. Burial will be at the Philipsburg Cemetery in Philipsburg.
Visitation will be 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
A Masonic memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
