Inmate Dies after Aug. 2 Aggravated Assault at SCI-Houtzdale

WOODWARD TOWNSHIP – An inmate has died after an aggravated assault incident at the State Correctional Institution at Houtzdale, according to the state police at Clearfield.

On Aug. 2 two inmates returned to their cell after completing work assignments. One inmate began assaulting the victim by punching and kicking him in the head and shoulder area, state police said.

The victim suffered severe head injuries and was flown to the Altoona Hospital for medical treatment. The victim died Sunday, state police said.

“An autopsy was conducted Monday, [and] the cause and manner of death are pending results of the autopsy,” state police said. “State police at Clearfield continue to investigate this incident.”
