Daytime I-80 Paving in Centre County Begins Westbound Next Week

Eastbound and westbound lane closures will be lifted starting today

STATE COLLEGE – Work to improve a section of Interstate 80 in Centre County will reach the paving phase, starting next week. Crews will start today to remove all lane restrictions between mile-marker 170 and mile-marker 164, with westbound paving set to take place next week during daylight hours only. The overall project will extend the life of the pavement and provide updated guide rail along both directions of the highway. Guide rail work along this section is now complete.

Westbound paving will feature daylight lane closures Aug. 19-22. Lane restrictions will be removed each night. The westbound work zone stretches from mile-marker 170 at the Clinton County line to mile-marker 164. Westbound work is expected to be finished Aug. 22 to avoid traffic impacts during Penn State “Move-in” days, Aug. 23-24.

The week of Aug. 26 will bring daylight paving to the eastbound lanes between mile-markers 164 and 170, with lane restrictions removed each night.

In addition to the daytime lane restrictions, drivers will encounter a reduced speed limit of 45 miles per hour through the work zone. Pennsylvania State Police will be present through the work zone to alert drivers to the restrictions and reduced speed limit.

PennDOT expects all work to be finished by mid-October. Suit-Kote Corp. of Tully, N.Y., is the contractor on this $1.6 million job. All work is weather dependent.

Drivers are reminded to move through construction zones with caution, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
