CLEARFIELD – Students will be heading back to school in just a few weeks, and Wal-Mart would like to help them have a great start.

“A new project this year is called “Stuff the Bus;” Wal-Mart Corporate asked stores nationwide to become involved with a school supply project,” explained Jeanette Cupp, front end zone supervisor for the Clearfield Wal-Mart store.

So she and Josh Holes, assistant manager, recently contacted the Clearfield Area United Way to help collect a wide variety of school supplies and sneakers, which will help benefit area school children. The donation drop-off point will be in front of the Wal-Mart Supercenter from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday.

There will be a banner and large donation bins on-site, and it is hoped that they will have a school bus to make the event a bit more fun. “Help a child have their best first days of school by donating,” said Nancy Pinto, chief professional officer of the Clearfield Area United Way.

“We’re hoping that anyone who is financially able can come out with a few items or purchase some school supplies that will in turn be donated to help those in need. Maybe someone whose children or grandchildren, nieces or nephews are already grown wants to make this type of community difference,” said Pinto.

The following supplies are being collected as part of “Stuff the Bus:” sneakers (any size), pens, No. 2 pencils, erasers, crayons or colored pencils, calculators, paper, composition or note books, highlighters, pencil sharpeners, glue sticks, staplers, backpacks and any school-related item.
