Obituary Notice: Mildred P. White

Mildred P. White, 89, of Clearfield died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. She was born March 30, 1924 in Windber, a daughter of the late Daniel and Angela (O’Cepek) O’Shaben.

Mrs. White was employed as a registered nurse at the Clearfield Hospital for 40 years. She had also worked at the Clearfield Vocational and Technical School, Clearfield Area School District and the American Red Cross.

She was a graduate of the Windber Hospital School of Nursing in 1944 and served with the U.S. Army Nurses Corps during World War II. She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church and the Rosary and Altar Society of the church.

She was also a member of the Clearfield Alumnae Nurses Association and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program at Clearfield. She volunteered at the Clearfield Hospital and the St. Francis School.

She is survived by two children, Corrine Rubbe and her husband, William of Clearfield and Charles White and his wife, Dorie of Curwensville; five grandsons; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Leona Liskai and her husband, George of Gibsonburg, Ohio and Nancy Vasilko and her husband, John of Cleveland, Ohio; four brothers, John O’Shaben of Mentor, Ohio, Richard O’Shaben and his wife, Rose of Clearwater, Fla., Jacob O’Shaben of Chicago, IL and Frank O’Shaben and his wife, Darlene of Portage; a brother-in-law, Rodney White and his wife, Joanne of Marietta, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse M. White on June 18, 1988 and whom she wed May 30, 1946 in Winchester, WV.

A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home. A Christian Vigil Service will be held at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield, or to the Clearfield Hospital Alumnae Association, 809 Turnpike Ave., Clearfield.
