Greek Mythology has never been funnier, as the Reitz Theater in DuBois presents their production of  “The Iliad, The Odyssey and All of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less” by Jay Hopkins, John Hunter and Homer.  Show dates for the production are at 8 p.m. Aug. 16-17 and Aug. 22-24 and a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee Aug. 18.

On a simple stage, with the clock ticking in front of everyone’s eyes, the cast speeds through all of Greek Mythology. It’s funny, updated and made easy to understand, with all the silly decisions, the absurd destinies and the goofy characters.  A cast of five will play multiple roles during this fast-paced comedy, which is appropriate for all audiences.

According to Director Ben Fitzgerald-Fye, classic mythology meets juvenile humor in this piece. “Five actors play a huge range of characters from classic Greek myths with a comedic twist,” Fye says. “This show is funny, nutty, and 99 minutes of fast-paced madness you are sure to enjoy.” Andy Stoker, R. Lee Chappel, Andi Kohlhepp, and Jessalyn Penvose will join Fye onstage to play over 30 characters in the production. “This show is a fabulous 99 minutes of crazy, Fye adds, “There is fog and Ken dolls and swords and wigs!”

The Orlando Weekly says that the celestial caricatures written by Hopkins and Hunter range from ridiculous to sublime, and there’s no required reading list to understand and enjoy them.

Sponsored by KTH Architects, and Hallstrom Construction, tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and $5 for kids 12 and under.

There will also be a special opening night event for the production, as the Winery at Wilcox will present a wine tasting at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 one hour before the 8 p.m. show.
