Thompson Encourages Students to Begin Preparing for the 2014 Service Academy Application Process

BELLEFONTE – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson, R-Howard, has announced Oct. 1 as the submission deadline for high school seniors to apply for nomination for acceptance into one of the four military service academies for 2014. Completed applications must be submitted to Thompson’s congressional district office in Bellefonte.

“For all students interested in applying to the academies the time has come to circle Oct. 1 on the calendar,” stated Thompson. “Even the brightest and most hard working students can be denied the opportunity of pursuing a future in the service academies by failing to be prepared for the application process and all related deadlines.”

Thompson’s Web site, www.thompson.house.gov, under the “Services” tab, has detailed information on the Military Academy Nomination application process, including the application itself and related guidance.

“Should potential applicants have additional questions about the application process or need individual assistance, I would encourage them to contact my office’s Academy Coordinator by calling (814) 353-0215,” added Thompson.

The service academies accepting nominations through congressional offices are the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY.  The U.S. Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn., accepts candidates based on its own testing criteria.
