CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Joseph Arquillo, 42, of Cleveland, Ohio. Arquillo was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on Monday.

On July 23, 2012, a criminal complaint was filed, charging Arquillo with theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy.

An affidavit of probable cause filed with the complaint states that on June 13, 2012, the Clearfield Borough Police Department received a report for the theft of jewelry and U.S. currency from a residence located on West Sixth Street. Upon investigation it was found that Arquillo and another individual had unlawfully removed the jewelry and U.S. currency while employed with a moving company that had been hired by the victim.

The approximate value of the stolen items was $4,175. Upon further investigation, it was found that Arquillo had exchanged several pieces of the stolen jewelry for cash at a jewelry store, the affidavit states.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 15, 2012, at which time all charges were held for court. On July 11, Arquillo failed to appear for criminal call, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Shaw stated that on Wednesday Arquillo was apprehended in Cuyahoga County, Ohio and taken into custody. Arquillo is currently housed in the Cuyahoga County Jail pending extradition to Clearfield County.

Shaw thanked the Clearfield County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance with this case.
