Helen L. Smyers, 85, of Reynoldsville died Saturday, Aug. 03, 2013 at her residence.
Born Jan. 1, 1928 in Solider, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Zahoransky) Sostakowski.
On Oct. 8, 1949, she married Frank L. Smyers. He preceded her in death May 5, 1977.
She worked as a library aide for many years at the Reynoldsville Library. Prior to that, she worked in the dietary department at both Christ the King Manor and the DuBois Hospital.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Reynoldsville. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing and collecting cookbooks. She was loved by not only her children and grandchildren, but also by the foster children who she helped and the kids who she cared for at her in home daycare.
She is survived by four children, Larry Smyers and his wife, Monica of DuBois and Richard Smyers and his wife, Bonnie, Dennis Smyers and Therese Smyers, all of Reynoldsville; three brothers, Peter Sostakowski of North Olmsted, OH; Carl Sostakowski of Bradford and Robert Sostakowski of North Ridgeville; a sister, Patricia Spisak of Elyria, OH; and three grandchildren, Andrea and Erica Smyers and Richard Smyers Jr.
She was preceded in death by her two infant sons.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Fr. Matis Quinmo officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Reynoldsville.
