Fred J. Socie, 93, of Clearfield died Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at his home. He was born Aug. 18, 1919, a son of the late Joseph William and Cecelia (Riley) Socie.
Mr. Socie retired from Harbison Walker Refractories, Clearfield, after 35 years of service. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, and the Knights of Columbus No. 409 of Clearfield.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Socie served during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Carmella (Sorbera) Socie, whom he wed Oct. 26, 1963 at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Father Brandon Kleckner as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at cemetery by the Clearfield VFW and American Legion Post’s Honor Guards.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, and again from 9 a.m. -9:30 a.m. Saturday. A Christian Vigil service will be held at 4:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front St., Clearfield or the Clearfield Foundation for Health-Hospice, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield.
