PENFIELD – The following programs have been announced for the Parker Dam State Park.
Friday, Aug. 16
Big Wet Rodent:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Aside from humans, probably no animal changes its environment more than beavers. They were once trapped for their prized fur– so much so that for a time they were gone from the Keystone State. You can learn more about beavers and see some amazing scenes of beavers at work.
Saturday, Aug. 17
Nature’s Jewelry:
2 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Join guest artist Kathy Davis as she shows what can be done with natural materials that can be found in the field and forest. She’ll explain how to make keepsakes from natural materials, and give you a chance to create your own.
Fitness Hula-Hooping:
3 p.m. – Beach House
This month’s fitness club activity is sure to be a blast! Join guest Brooke Belgin as she teaches us all about the marvelous hoop and how to get started on your way to being a hula hooping all-star!
Tales From the Hive:
8:30 p.m. – Campground Amphitheater
Bees are amazing creatures, quite possibly working harder than most others. Watch as the secret world of a bee colony is unveiled and we can see how life as a bee unfolds. Discover new-found facts about the strange and complex life of bees.
Sunday, Aug. 18
Fabulous Furs:
2 p.m. – Beach House steps
For some folks, there is nothing finer than a luxurious fur coat. The creatures that inhabit Penn’s Woods find this to be true as well. Learn how to identify the fur coats of many of the mammals that call the park home.
Beaver Dam Trail Hike:
6 p.m. – Beach House
Hike on one of the more popular trails in the park. We will travel through varying habitats and have the opportunity to see diverse wildlife and their sign. Part of the trail follows a historic railroad grade and you may learn a little about the park’s history along the way too. This two-mile loop is along easy terrain but please wear appropriate footwear.
