Donald R. Vaughn, 84, of West Decatur died Friday, July 26, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield and is now resting in Peace with the Lord.

Born Jan. 6, 1929, he was a son of the late Ellsworth N. and Marjorie Joy (Wood) Vaughn. On Dec. 2, 1948 in Cumberland, MD, he married Henrietta (Smith) Vaughn, who died Feb. 22, 2002.

He’s survived by a brother, Harold E. Vaughn and his wife, Margaret of Philipsburg; a sister, Leah Jane Waring and her husband, Luther of Lewistown; two step-brothers, John Waite and his wife, Shirley and Stanley Waite and his wife, Margaret, all of South Carolina; a step-sister, Helen Miller and her husband, Edward of Altoona; 13 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Bernadine “Baney” Waite Vaughn; two step-brothers, Thomas Waite and Todd Waite; three step-sisters, Elsie Shutt, Marcella Smith and Elenora Emery; and a nephew, Randall Vaughn.

He was a long-time member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in West Decatur, where he served on the church board and taught adult Sunday school class and Wednesday night Bible study. For the last few years, he attended the Church of the Nazarene, rural Philipsburg, and served on the church board and was an usher. He lived his life working for the Lord.

For a number of years, he worked at Fullington Bus Company as an assistant shop foreman and driver of the charter coaches. He received safe driver awards, as well as the distinction of “Driver of the Year for the state of Pennsylvania.” In 1992 he retired from Penn State, where he worked as a finish cutter in the print shop.

He was a survivor of prostate cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. John Versaw officiating. Burial will follow at Mock’s Hill Cemetery, West Decatur.

Friends will be received from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
