Fire Investigation Completed at Domtar Inc.

JOHNSONBURG – The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Fire Investigation Division; the Johnsonburg Fire Department and Domtar Inc. representatives have completed their investigation into the fire that started in a wood chip transportation tunnel on July 12 at Domtar Inc.

According to the state police at Ridgway, the fire was completely extinguished on July 24. The fire issues that occurred from July 13-24 were isolated to the above ground wood chip storage area near the tunnel system. The smoldering of the chip pile resulted from the fire that started in the tunnel, state police said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time; however, there aren’t any suspicious circumstances. The tunnel has since been released to Domtar Inc. officials for cleanup and repair, but a monetary estimate so far as the extent of damage is not yet available, state police said.
