RUSH TOWNSHIP – A 40-year-old Philipsburg man sustained moderate injuries Sunday in an all-terrain vehicle accident and was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center, reported the state police at Philipsburg.
The man was traveling north on Sleepy Hollow Road near Hillside Road on his ATV. At that time, a trooper was parked along the roadway and observed the ATV approaching the rear of his patrol vehicle. Upon getting within 100 to 120 yards, the man stopped, turned the ATV around and proceeded south on Sleepy Hollow Road.
State police then followed in an attempt to stop the man for driving the ATV on the roadway. The man continued to travel in an easterly direction. A short distance later, the man attempted to steer the ATV to the right and exit the roadway.
In doing so, the man was traveling too fast and the ATV overturned. The ATV came to a rest on the side of the roadway, facing west. The man sustained a large cut on the side of his face. He was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of his injury.
Upon making contact with the man, state police determined he’d previously consumed alcohol. State police initiated an investigation to determine if the man was under the influence at the time he was operating the ATV. Pending investigation the man will be charged at a later date if evidence shows he was driving under the influence.
