Library to Hold Final Week of Summer Reading Program

CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library will hold its final week of programming for the summer reading program, Dig Into Reading.

The past week featured preschoolers making bubbles and school-age youth painting T-shirts and racing construction vehicles. The events come to a close this week with a few special crafts and activities.

On Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., Read-to-Me participants will design a special picture frame to hold their most treasured photo. School Age A youth will also create a photo frame for a treasured photo on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. All those in attendance on both days are encouraged to bring a 3-inch by 5-inch photo.

School Age B participants are invited to join the Gold Rush on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Participants will pan for gold and other treasures during a historically based event.

The Garden Shop will be open for youth to redeem all reading and attendance incentives.  Visit the front desk of the library on Monday, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Friday, from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. to receive any earned Veggie Bills.  Youth are encouraged to bring any Seeds from recent program attendance as well.

Adults enrolled in the Groundbreaking Reads summer reading program are reminded to submit a recipe using fresh fruits and or vegetables to be compiled into a “From Garden to Table” recipe book. Forms for recipe submission are available at the front desk of the library and must be turned in by Friday at 5 p.m.

Adult summer reading participants and young adults participating in the Beneath the Surface summer reading program are encouraged to visit the front desk of the Shaw Public Library to redeem any earned reading incentives.

Registration for the Dig Into Reading summer reading program is open until July 31 at 5 p.m. Registration is completed when participants pick up their registration packets at the front desk of the library.

Children ages birth through preschool age should enroll in the Read-to-Me program. Youth who have completed kindergarten through grade two are encouraged to participate in the School Age A program and those who have completed grades three through five will enroll in the School Age B program.

The Beneath the Surface young adult summer reading program is open to anyone who has completed grades six through eleven and Groundbreaking Reads adult summer reading program is available to all adults, including 2013 high school graduates.

The library is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.
