Moshannon State Forest Sends Firefighters to Alaska

PENFIELD – The need for wildland firefighters in response to conditions in the west has reached the Moshannon State Forest, according to Wayne Wynick, assistant district forester.

On Friday the call went out across the state that Pennsylvania needed to provide the manpower for two, 20-person crews. This forest district was able to provide six employees and one volunteer for the mobilization effort. They assembled in Harrisburg that evening and departed on a flight to Alaska on Saturday morning, said Wynick.

Man Waives Hearing for Breaking into Pharmacy

DUBOIS – A DuBois man accused of breaking into a local pharmacy twice waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday during Centralized Court.

Adam Paul Mott, 33, 312 W. Long Ave., DuBois, an inmate of the jail, is charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking receiving stolen property, criminal mischief and possessing instruments of crime in two cases. His bail is $50,000, monetary in the first case and $1,000, monetary in the second case.

Reps to County: Village View’s Operations in Jeopardy

CLEARFIELD – At Tuesday’s board meeting, the Clearfield County Commissioners learned from representatives of the DuBois Continuum of Care Community Inc. (DCCCI) that the operation of its independent living apartments, Village View, is in jeopardy with the state claiming it’s an illegal assisted living facility.

FirstEnergy to Deactivate Two Coal-Fired Power Plants in Pennsylvania

AKRON – FirstEnergy Corp. has announced that it expects to deactivate two, coal-fired power plants located in Pennsylvania by Oct. 9. The decision is based upon the cost of compliance with current and future environmental regulations in conjunction with the continued low market price for electricity.

Grampian Man Gets State Prison for Burglarizing Car Dealer, Church

CLEARFIELD – A Grampian man will be spending time in state prison for the burglary of an area car dealer and a church.

David Jeffery Allen, 27, 5498 Chestnut Grove Hwy., Grampian, an inmate of state prison, pleaded guilty Monday in Clearfield County Court to burglary, criminal conspiracy, and criminal mischief in two cases.

LT Police Probing Drug Activity

LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP – The Lawrence Township police initiated a drug investigation yesterday that involves six suspects at an area motel.

Man Waives Hearing in Sexual Assault Case

CLEARFIELD – A Clearfield man accused of sexually assaulting a 3-year-old girl waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Jerome Nevling during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.

Gregory A. Laird, 50, of Clearfield has been charged with two counts each of aggravated indecent assault of child, indecent assault/person less than 13 years of age and corruption of minors. Laird is incarcerated in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Man Gets Jail for Assaulting Women, Stealing Vehicle

CLEARFIELD – A Portersville man recently found guilty of assaulting two women and stealing a vehicle was sentenced Tuesday during plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.

Randy Joseph Pfab, 27, 675 Studebaker Rd., Portersville, was sentenced to 12 months to two years less one day in jail for robbery of a motor vehicle, driving under the influence and simple assault. He must also serve three years consecutive probation, complete drug and alcohol counseling and pay $1,250 plus costs. The DUI charge requires he complete the DUI school and surrender his driver’s license.

Clearfield Borough Hears Updates on PGP Expansion

CLEARFIELD – Code Enforcement Officer Larry Mack reported on progress for a proposed expansion for the Pennsylvania Grain Processing (PGP) LLC ethanol plant at last night’s Clearfield Borough Council committee meeting.

Mack said the County Planning Commission met June 29 and reviewed PGP’s expansion plans, which include four new storage silos, expanding the flat storage building, and rerouting the plants delivery road for better efficiency.
