CLEARFIELD – CNB Bank hosted its second-ever charity golf tournament on June 27 and raised $24,000 to benefit local American Cancer Society programs.
The funds have been donated to the ACS to make the services of Road to Recovery and Hope Lodge available to local families.
Not alone in this endeavor, customers and vendors of CNB Bank reached out with generous donations. Gifts for participants and Chinese auction, food, beverage, cart and tee sponsorships, cash donations, team sponsors and printing allowed CNB Bank to exceed its expectations.
Although play was canceled due to rain, awards were still given by random draw. First place prizes were given to teams from 765-DECK and Wise Eyes. Second place prizes were given to teams from Link Computer Corp. and Jefferson County DC Inc.
CNB Bank thanked Jody Vezza, who won $367 in the 50/50 drawing and who graciously donated it back to benefit the local ACS programs.
“Once again, I am overwhelmed by the support of our customers and vendors,” stated Joe Bower, president and chief executive officer of CNB Bank. “Even with the all-day rain, we were still able to double the amount raised at last year’s event. With the support of so many, it is exciting for me to hand over a check of this amount to such a special organization.”
Every day thousands of cancer patients need transportation to treatment, but some may not have a way to get there. The Road to Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer and do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars, so that patients can receive the life-saving treatments they need.
At Hope Lodge, they understand that undergoing treatment for cancer can be both financially and emotionally overwhelming. Having to travel out of town for treatment can make it even harder. That is why the ACS Hope Lodge offers lodging at no cost for cancer patients who are being treated in the central Pennsylvania area.
Hope Lodge offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free, temporary place to stay when their best hope for effective treatment may be in another city. Hope Lodge provides a nurturing, home-like environment, where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others. There are two Hope Lodges in Pennsylvania.
“We’re happy that the American Cancer Society was able to designate the money to local chapter programs in Clearfield and Jefferson counties that will benefit families within our own community,” stated Bower.
CNB Bank has already begun planning its third annual Charity Golf Tournament to be held in June of 2014.
