Norman L. Jones, 86, a resident of Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield, formerly of Gearhartville, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the center.
Born July 4, 1927 in Gearhartville, he was the son of Isaac and Goldia (Singer) Jones Jr. He is survived by two sisters, Esther Shockey and Dorothy Jones, both of Gearhartville; a niece, Donna Jean Shockey; and his dog, Zip.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Donald Shockey and his dog, Blackie.
He was a 1948 graduate of Philipsburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He had worked at Hurwitz Hardware, Morningstar Bakery, Hurwitz Laundromat, Hurwitz Carwash, and the Harbor Inn.
He had a love of drawing, planting flower beds and gardening. He was a fisherman and enjoyed being outside.
Funeral service and burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Centre United Methodist Church Cemetery, Osceola Mills, with Pastor Noel Meyers officiating.
Military honors will follow and will be conducted by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard. Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Tuesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg.
