Woman Killed in UTV Accident

state-police-pa-300x225WINSLOW TOWNSHIP – A woman was killed after an accident involving a utility-terrain vehicle early yesterday morning on Sprague Road in Winslow Township, according to the state police at DuBois.

Lexie Wise, 19, of DuBois was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder. Her passenger, Shannon Thompson, 20, of Reynoldsville was flown to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Presbyterian Hospital for treatment of severe injuries.

Both Wise and Thompson were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. However, neither was wearing a helmet, state police said.

Wise was traveling eastbound on Sprague Road at an unsafe speed. She lost control while negotiating a left-hand curve. Her UTV exited the south side of the roadway, traveled down an embankment and impacted a large tree, state police said.

State police were assisted by Sykesville Ambulance Service, the Reynoldsville and Sykesville fire & rescue departments and DuBois Emergency Medical Services.
