The faculty and staff of the DBC will celebrate the graduation of their students who have met all the requirements needed to graduate from the student’s program of study. Each graduate will receive an Associate of Specialized Business degree or a diploma in one of the 12 programs offered at the campus located at 1 Beaver Dr., DuBois.
The DBC will have U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson as the commencement speaker for the event.
A life-long resident of Howard Township, Centre County, he was first elected to represent Pennsylvania’s 5th District in the U.S. House of Representatives on Nov. 4, 2008 and sworn in to his third term on Jan. 3 of this year.
Prior to being elected to Pennsylvania’s geographically largest congressional district, he spent 28 years as a therapist, rehabilitation services manager and a licensed nursing home administrator. A 30-year veteran of the Juniata Valley Boy Scout Council, he was the council’s president from 2007-2009. He has enriched the lives of young men throughout central Pennsylvania. Among just 2,000 presented since 1969, in 2012, he received the National Distinguished Eagle Scout Award.
Thompson is also a former member of the Bald Eagle Area school board and is past vice-chair of the Private Industry Council of the Central Corridor. Because of these experiences, in 2008, he was appointed to the House Committee on Education & Workforce. In the 113th Congress, Thompson will serve his second term as co-chairman of the bipartisan Congressional Career and Technical Education Caucus.
A community leader and a volunteer firefighter, with three decades of service, he is acutely aware of the challenges facing Pennsylvania communities. As a member of the House Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Education & Workforce Committees, he’s in a unique position to bring his expertise and knowledge to bear on the issues facing rural businesses, communities, and families, in order to improve the lives of the citizens of the 5th District.
Thompson is serving his second term as chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy & Forestry. Additionally, during the 113th Congress, he will serve as co-chairman for the bipartisan Congressional Natural Gas Caucus.
Students who have earned the honor of cum laude, magna cum laude and summa cum laude will also become members of the Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society during the ceremony.
An Hors d oeuvres reception will follow the commencement exercises where family and friends, as well as faculty and staff, will be able to personally congratulate the graduates.
