Detour will be in place
STATE COLLEGE – On behalf of Gov. Tom Corbett, PennDOT has announced that work to replace the Nittany Creek Bridge on Route 1005 (Forest Avenue) in Centre County will get under way on July 8.
When the work is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Centre County. Replacing the bridge will provide area drivers with safer, more efficient travel across a modern structure.
The bridge spans Nittany Creek on Route 1005, at the Walker/Marion Township line, about one-and-a-half miles north of the Zion/Route 550 intersection. The bridge was built in 1939, is 15 feet long and carries an average of almost 1,400 vehicles each day.
When the bridge replacement begins on July 8, an official detour will be in effect. Drivers will use Routes 26 and 550 before returning to Route 1005.
Work is scheduled to last until the beginning of August. Crews from PennDOT Centre County Maintenance will perform the work, which is weather and schedule dependent. Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits, follow the detour, and always buckle up.
