CLEARFIELD COUNTY – Clearfield County Emergency Management is currently responding to severe flooding in the DuBois and Sandy Township areas.

As a result, roadways have been closed and travel will not be possible through the entire DuBois and Sandy Township area.

Anyone who wants to travel through DuBois or Sandy Township will have to use alternate routes around the flooded area, Clearfield County Emergency Management Director Joe Bigar Jr. said.

Sandy Township police also announced all roadways have been closed heading into and from the area. Sandy Township Emergency Management has requested residents to stay at their current location. Rescue crews are responding to calls as quickly as possible but are stretched very thin, police said.

Trains and ambulances are being diverted from the area.  Power is currently out in the West Sandy area. Residents are urged to stay in their homes unless there is an immediate danger of flooding, police said.

The state’s Department of Transportation reports that several roadways in District 2 are closed at this hour due to flooding.

Motorists should not attempt to drive through standing water on roadways. Water may be deeper than it appears.

The following state routes are closed due to flooding:

Clearfield County

Elk County

Centre County

Clinton County

These routes will open when water recedes to allow for safe passage.

Conditions are changing rapidly, and motorists are advised that roads previously open could close at any time.
