John Green, 70, of Woodland died Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of 52 years to Joan (Knepp) Green of Woodland, whom he married on July 15, 1961.
Born Nov. 6, 1942 in Woodland, he was the son of the late Lawrence Hudson Green and Bertha Mae (Knepp) Green Best.
Mr. Green was a 1961 graduate of the Clearfield High School. He was employed at Blue Knob Ski Resort, Hanson Trucking, LeContes Mills and Brown Brothers Transport of the Clearfield-Curwensville Highway for 15 years.
Prior to retirement, he was employed at the Crowncrest Memorial Park. He was a life-member of the FOE # 112, Clearfield, and the Third Ward Fire Company. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren around the fire roasting hot dogs.
In addition to his wife, surviving are one son and two daughters, Teresa Knepp and her husband, Randy of Bigler; John Green Jr. and his wife, Cheryl of Allport; and Dawn Shirey and her husband, Terry of Woodland.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Adam and Bryan Pry; Kira Johnston and her husband, Brad; Cortney Casher and her husband, Jason; Marissa Uncles and her husband, Aaron; Sierra Knepp, Clayton, Morgan and Seth Green; Connor and Logan Shirey; three great-grandchildren, Carter Johnston; Raigan Uncles; and Reese Casher; and seven brothers and three sisters, Jim, Ronald, Rodger, Larry, Harold and William Green; Ralph Best; Dorothy Schell; Marlene Casher; and Elaine Mease.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Donald, Joseph and Bob Green and a sister, Mary Jane Summers.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Green will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home, 312 E. Locust St., Clearfield, with Dr. Duane White officiating. A time to share memories and have an opportunity to view will be held from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Bradford Cemetery.
