George H. Stone, 85, of the Village of Forest, RD Morrisdale, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at his residence. Born Dec. 8, 1927 in New Kensington, he was the son of the late Chester Clair and Ida Alberta (Tusing) Stone.

Mr. Stone was a member of the Abundant Life Fellowship Church, Philipsburg. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Stone coordinated the food pantry at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church for the past seven years.

He was employed by the city of Dearborn, Mich. and retired as a building and safety inspector after 25 years of service. He was also a self-employed truck driver in Michigan and an auto mechanic.

Mr. Stone wed the former F. Marjorie Rode on June 3, 1950 at the Pine Grove Memorial Church in Dearborn, Mich. She survives him at home.

He’s survived by a daughter, Deborah Arthur of Milford, Mich.; four sons, George R. Stone and his wife, Susan of Lakeland, Fla.; Daniel H. Stone and his wife, Janet of Plant City, Fla.; Richard D. Stone and his fiancé, Veronica of Bigler; and Pastor Jonathan B. Stone and his wife, Lori of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; a sister, Violet A. Shipman of Leechburg; and two brothers, Clair W. Stone of Leechburg and Earl W. Stone of Taylor, Mich.

He’s also survived by seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a foster daughter, Sharon Moore of Philipsburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Daniel H. Stone Jr. and Issac Bottorff and a brother, Harry W. Stone.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Abundant Life Fellowship Church, Philipsburg, with the Rev. W. Dean Krause and Pastor Jonathan B. Stone, son of Mr. Stone, co-officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.

Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.
