The placement will raise awareness of the 35-mile-per-hour speed limit in this area and aid in curbing a common type of aggressive driving.
The sign is located just east of the intersection with Read Road (township Route 597), facing westbound traffic. The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign.
The speed display sign will remain on location for about one month.
Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of accidents and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.
Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as an accident cause in nearly 49 percent of Clearfield County accidents in 2012.
