Cooperative Extension to Offer “Dining with Diabetes” Program

The Penn State Cooperative Extension Office in Clearfield County will sponsor a series of classes, “Dining with Diabetes, a Program for People with Type 2 Diabetes and Their Families.”

Course dates are Tuesdays, July 2 through July 30 at two separate locations. The morning sessions will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 12p.m. at Cen-Clear in Hyde. The afternoon sessions will run from 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. at The Cove in Dubois. Both are open to those ages 18 years and older.

Class size is limited to the first 10 participants. Participation is free for Medicare and Medical Assistance recipients. Course fees are $40 for individuals and $55 including the spouse, partner, family member, case-worker or caregiver. Costs cover educational materials, recipes and food costs, as each class includes a health lesson, meal planning and actual preparation and sampling. They also include exercises to help individuals gain better control of their blood sugars.

This course and follow-up meeting will help participants address diabetes lifestyle management. A follow-up meeting will take place three months from the beginning of the classes to evaluate progress, answer questions and to learn additional information.
