PennDOT Places Speed Display Sign in Clearfield County

CLEARFIELD – Motorists in Sandy Township, Clearfield County, will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit, as they travel on Route 4003 (Stanley Road). PennDOT today placed a radar-controlled speed display sign in this area to aid in curbing a common type of aggressive driving.

The sign is located near the intersection with Route 119, facing southbound traffic. The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic.  Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign. The posted speed limit in this area of Route 119 is 35 miles per hour.

The speed display sign will remain on location for about one month.

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of accidents and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.

Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as an accident cause in nearly 49 percent of Clearfield County accidents in 2012.
