Sophie F. Butler, 96, of Clearfield died Saturday, June 8, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. Mrs. Butler was born March 1, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Sophie (Mecca) Fulesday.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Butler was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Clearfield.
She had been a volunteer since 1959 for the American Red Cross. She had volunteered in the chaplaincy program at Clearfield Hospital and involved in various crafts, among those, china painting and ceramics.
Mrs. Butler is survived by two sons, David B. Butler and his wife, Judy and Thomas W. Butler and his wife Patti, all of Clearfield; four grandchildren, Brian Butler of Clearfield, Matthew Butler and his wife, Jaime of Houston, TX, Thomas Butler and his, wife Cynthia of Livermore, CA. and Kasi Ann Burns and her husband, Ben of West Decatur; five great-grandchildren, Thomas, Anna, Brennan and Liam Butler and Benjamin Burns; and two brothers, Charles A. Fulesday of Alexandria, VA., and Elmer D. Fulesday of Clearfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Blaine W. Butler, whom she married March 29, 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church in Clearfield and who died Jan. 23, 2005; two brothers, Edward and Joseph Fulesday; and a sister, Marian Sloppie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., of Clearfield, with the Rev. Robert J. Way officiating. Burial will be at Crown Crest Memorial Park.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Friday at the funeral home.
