HUGILL AND WARREN NEW AMP WINNERS
CLEARFIELD – Matthew Hugill of Mahaffey picked up his first Harter and Son’s Street Stock Feature on Saturday night, while Bryan Warren of Curwensville copped his first Clearfield County Metals Four Cylinder feature. Repeat winners included: Luke Hoffner of Turbotville in the Randy Sterling Trucking Late Models, Denny Fenton of Clearfield in the Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub Semi Lates and Hunter McCracken of Curwensville in the Quigley’s Pub Pure Stocks.
The Late Models were led to the start with Denny Fenton and Luke Hoffner on the front row with Fenton taking the lead and Hoffner falling into second. As the first of a series of cautions began to fall Fenton held the lead, but Hoffner was able to take the lead as the field worked off the second turn on lap three. Hoffner took the lead and set sail, as he was pulling away from the field and worked through lapped traffic with ease. While Hoffner was working through lapped traffic, Chris Farrell and Fenton were waging their own war, as Farrell moved into second on lap 20, and set his sights on the leader, but Farrell ran out of time as Hoffner went on to get his third win of the season. Farrell, Fenton, Scott Alvetro and Josh Young completed the top five. Heat wins went to Hoffner and Fenton.
Once again five Semi Lates turned out for the new division with Jake Shady coming from fourth to take the lead at the start and once in the top spot he was on a rail, but Denny Fenton was on his bumper the entire race, but Shady was able to hold on for the victory. New comer Mike Evock was third with Dylan Fenton and Chad Desmott completing the top five. Hoffner also copped the heat.
The Street Stocks saw Doug Tibbens and Matt Krause on the front row with Krause taking the lead and Jamie Price in second, but Matt Hugill moved into second on lap two and on lap three, Hugill had the lead. As he was leading a race was breaking out. Hugill was in the front of the field, but Kyle Shannon started 16th on the field and was headed to the front. Price lost second to Dan Smeal on lap seven as Smeal was on the bumper of the Hugill 65H, but Hugill had the line and was keeping the challenges from Smeal under control, but Smeal broke and pitted on lap 15, giving second over to Shannon, who was all over Hugill like a bad dream, but Hugill was determined to end a three-year dry spell as he picked up the victory over Shannon, Price, Chad Rougeux and Tim Fannin. Heat wins were split by Smeal and Tony Brown.
From the time Allen Luzier dropped the green flag until he waved the checkered flags, the Pure Stock feature was undecided, as no one had much of a lead at anytime. The front row was Mike Duck and Curtis Guyer, with Duck taking the lead and Jon Lee in second. As the field was completing lap three, Duck went up in smoke, ending his night. This gave the lead over to Lee, who had Jason Beichner, Cody Hummel and Hunter McCracken all jockeying for the lead. Often three wide, the top four pulled away from fifth place to wager their own battle, as Lee continued to lead until Beichner took the lead on lap 10, but on a lap 13 restart Beichner went high in turn two, relinquishing the lead to Lee, but he only led for one additional lap, when McCracken took the lead. As McCracken and Beichner were going door-to-door, Hummel was waiting for an opening as was Lee. As they came off the final turn on the final lap, Beichner was on the inside and McCracken was on the high side, they were neck and neck off turn four, but at the line it was McCracken by only inches over Beichner, Hummel, Lee and Ben Krause. At the scales, Lee was light, forcing him to the rear of the run down and putting Preston Imler in fifth. Heat wins went to Beichner and Hummel.
Bryan Warren beat Aaron Luzier off the line to start the Four Cylinder feature, with Jody Frantz in second before Jesse Short took the position on lap seven. Warren was able to hold Short at bay as he went on to get his first win at AMP. Eric Luzier won a hard fought battle for third over Aaron Luzier and Stephanie Lucas. The heats were won by Lucas and Eric Luzier.
AMP Notes: There were a total of 67 cars in the pits, including 17 Late Models, 5 Semi Lates, 17 Street Stocks, 13 Pure Stocks, and 15 4 Cylinders…Coming up this week is another five-division AMPED up show, including Late Models, Semi Lates, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and Four Cylinders…Gates open at 3 with race time set for 6:30 p.m…Coming up on July 3 is a special appearance by the 410 Sprints.
