Clearfield Borough Terminates Police Officer

CLEARFIELD – At a special meeting Thursday night, the Clearfield Borough Council approved the termination of police officer Dan Farley.

Farley was terminated for the “neglect of official duties, for violation of orders and for conduct unbecoming of an officer,” which is pursuant to Section 1190 of the Borough Code, said Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott.

“Because this is a personnel issue, the borough has no further comment,” she said. When asked, Stott said criminal charges haven’t been filed against Farley.

Farley was a full-time police officer and had worked for the Clearfield Borough police for approximately seven years, she said.

Stott said the motion to terminate Farley’s employment gained approval by a 5-2 vote. Council members Tim Winters and Patricia Kavelak opposed the motion. Council member James Kling was absent from the meeting.

Council, according to Stott, also approved the immediate hiring of Paul Butler as a part-time police officer.

In other business, Stott said the borough voted to approve the implementation of a fee in the amount of $50 for any non-sufficient fund check received by the borough’s administrative office or police department.

She said the borough also changed its commercial insurance policy to Selective Insurance for $41,099.
