DUBOIS – Dorothy Hook, a local artist, is currently displaying her watercolors of Helvetia at the DuBois Area Historical Society.
The paintings are in the main entrance windows of the E. D. Reitz Museum, 30 W. Long Ave., DuBois.
She will also be at the museum on June 8, the day of the DACOTA Art Walk. The museum will be a stop on the walk and will be open from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Hook is a professional artist and educator with a doctoral degree from Penn State University. For six years, she taught watercolors, oils and wildlife drawing at the Penn State DuBois campus.
She then became Artist-in-Resident for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 14 years. In this capacity, she instructed students in completing 76 permanent murals based upon local and historical themes.
Hook is internationally known for her extensive publication of more than 300 watercolor images of Alaska in postcards, notecards and limited edition prints. She created a set of historical postcards of DuBois, which is still available from the DuBois Area Historical Society.
