Michael J. Lanich Sr., 51, of Clearfield died Thursday, May 30, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital. He was born June 17, 1961, a son of Nancy A. (Shaffer) Lanich of Curwensville and the late Charles ‘Sam’ Lanich.
He was employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, where he held the status of being an ASE Master Mechanic. He was also an avid motorcyclist, a 1979 graduate of Curwensville High School and a 1981 graduate of the PA College of Technology, Williamsport.
He was a member of Curwensville VFW Post #0842, Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Co., Clearfield American Legion Post #6, ABATE and a H.O.G member.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Hanes) Lanich, whom he wed April 20, 2013 in Clearfield; a former wife, Mary Beth Flanagan Lanich of Olanta; two children, Michael ‘Joe’ Lanich Jr. and his wife, Andrea of Kushequa and Elizabeth Lanich of Clearfield; and a grandson, Riley Robison, who meant the world to him.
Also surviving are two sisters, Sandra Lord and her husband, Bryon of Olanta and Susan Swales and her husband, Thad of Clearfield; two brothers, Christopher Lanich and his wife, Joanne of Mercer and Daniel ‘Buddha’ Lanich and his wife, Laurie of Irvona; and a mother-in-law, Doris Hanes of Clearfield.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the American Legion, Clearfield.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Nathaniel D. Yingling Cancer Center, Attn: Bob Perks Fund, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield, or to ABATE of Pennsylvania, P.O. Box 15226, Harrisburg, PA 17105.
