UPDATE: Police: SR 66 Accident Claims 3 Lives

UPDATE: 11:51 a.m.

State police at Ridgway have released the names of the three people who were killed in this accident. The driver was Robert D. Higginbotham, 33; his passengers were Clyde W. Nelson II, 33, and Delores L. Woodall, 36. All three were from Kane.

HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP – Three people are dead after a two-vehicle accident that occurred at 9:15 p.m. Thursday on state Route 66 in Highland Township.

State police at Ridgway reported that two men were pronounced dead at the scene by Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio. A female was transported to the Kane Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

A man was traveling southbound on SR 66, while Larry James Saline Jr. of Johnsonburg was traveling in the opposite direction. For unknown reasons, the man crossed the centerline and struck the vehicle driven by Saline.

The man’s vehicle sustained severe damage and overturned onto its roof. This, according to state police, caused life-ending injuries to the man who was ejected from the vehicle.

He had two passengers who also sustained life-ending injuries and who were extricated from the vehicle.

The man and his passengers weren’t wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, state police said. Their names are being withheld at this time.

Saline was not injured; he was wearing his seatbelt.

State police were assisted at the scene by the Highland, Kane and James City Fire/Rescue teams and PennDOT.
