Obituary Notice: M. Jane Shugarts

M. Jane Shugarts, 79, of Clearfield, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.  She was the wife of 57 years to Franklin Maxwell “Max” Shugarts, whom she married May 19, 1956.

Born Jan. 3, 1934 at home, she was the daughter of the late Ai William and Pearl (Miller) Nelson.

Mrs. Shugarts was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church, Clearfield, where she was a member of the kitchen committee and volunteered for the nursery.

She was a 1952 graduate of Clearfield High School and a member of the cheerleading squad.  She was employed with Henchbarger’s store, the county agent and Target Sportswear in Clearfield from which she retired.

She enjoyed cooking and was known for her pies and applesauce. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, auctions, antiques but most of all spending time with her family at gatherings and especially her grandchildren and attending their events.

Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters and two sons, Dennis Shugarts of Reinholds, Doug Shugarts and his wife, Barbara of Lewistown, Doreen Pierdomenico and her husband, John, Temple and Deb Clark and her husband, Keith of Philipsburg.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Nate and Dana Shugarts, Bree and Weston Shugarts, Mindy, Julianna and John Paul Pierdomenico, Shay, Noah and Alexis Clark; one brother and three sisters, Kenneth Nelson and his wife, Betty, Shirley Lansberry, Ruth Bock and her husband, William and Carol Catherman and her husband, James, all of Clearfield; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nelson and Janet Nelson, both of Clearfield and Ruth Nelson of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister, Willard Nelson, Eldon Nelson, Mae Lindvall, Richard Nelson and Sherman Nelson.

There will be no public viewing.  Family and friends are invited to a celebration of life memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday at the West SideUnitedMethodistChurch, Clearfield, with the Rev. Dr. Joleen A. Willis officiating.  A time to share memories with the family will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the church.  Burial will be in CrownCrestMemorial Park, Clearfield.

Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Clearfield, is assisting the family with their arrangements.
