LHU Names New Director of Library and Information Services

topperLOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven University Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Donna Wilson named Joby Topper the new director of Library and Information Services. Topper is not new to LHU; he has been a part of the campus since 2004, most recently as Interim Director of Library and Information Services since May of 2012.

From August of 2004 to May of 2012, he was a Technical Services Librarian and the library’s liaison to the Department of History, Political Science and Geography.  Before coming to LHU in 2004, Topper was a Rare Books Cataloger at the University of Michigan (2002-2004) and at the University of Virginia (1994-2000).

He holds a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master’s degree in Higher Education (with a concentration in History) from PennState.

“Joby has served this institution well. He is a leader and we are very happy that he has accepted this position on a permanent basis,” said Wilson.

“I’m very fortunate,” said Topper.  “I’ve inherited an organization full of good people.  It’s my job to put them in situations where they can succeed.  My overarching goal is to coordinate everyone’s efforts in a way that fulfills our mission.  That mission is to provide LHU students, faculty, and staff with the means and skills to locate and effectively use all types of information resources and academic technologies; to help our teaching faculty deliver high-quality online instruction; and to ensure that the library is a comfortable place suitable for group projects and quiet study.  In short, I want Library and Information Services to be a vital part of teaching and learning here at LHU.”
