Sgt. Maj. Willmer Allen Bowman, 83, of Curwensville died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at his home. He was born Aug. 25, 1929, the son of Walter and Twila (Dodge) Bowman.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from October of 1946 until September of 1976. During his time in the military, he served a tour of duty on Guam, was assigned as a First Sergeant in his first tour of Vietnam and Sergeant Major in his second tour.

After retiring from the military, he went on to work for the National Security Agency until retirement in 1994.

He’s survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Hall) Bowman and three sons, Clifford of Las Vegas, Rick and his wife, Diane of Curwensville and Bret and his wife, Rose of Houston, TX.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Brandy Bowman, Kristy (Bowman) Stephens and her husband, Paul, Ricky J. Bowman, Dina (Bowman) Castelli and her husband, Jason, Kelly (Bowman) Truitt and her husband, Justin, Kimberly (Bowman) Beal and her husband, Casey, Jesse Bowman and his wife, Laura, Neal Bowman, Shelley Bowman, Zach Bowman and Jake Bowman.

Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Milford and his wife, Jeannine of Curwensville, a sister, Betty Lou Notor and her husband Ronald of North Carolina; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Bowman of Curwensville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Theodore Bowman.

Anyone who knew Mr. Bowman could see that he had a much enriched life consisting of a wife he adored and a fulfilling career that he loved. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who had the honor of being a part of his journey here.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Robert Achey officiating. Burial will be in the BloomingtonCemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the DuBois Honor Guard.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the services on Monday at the funeral home.
