TYRONE — Mikayla Ebeling sped around the bases for a two-run inside-the-park homer that put Clearfield in front 4-3 in the fifth inning, and Megan Vanderburgh provided insurance with a two-run single in the seventh as the Lady Bison defeated Tyrone 8-3 in Mountain League high school softball action Thursday.
“I have to give credit to the bottom of the order,” coach Bob Lewis said after Clearfield’s second win in as many nights. “Our 6-7-8-9 batters scored six runs and had four RBIs.”
Down 3-1 going to the fifth frame, Clearfield (5-10, 2-10 ML) got an RBI single from Macala Leigey before Ebeling ripped her game-winning home run down the right field line.
“The thing was adjusting to (Ashley) Tepsic, because she does not throw hard,” Lewis said. “Then we hit the ball hard, even on some of our outs.”
After winning pitcher Rachel Hoffman struck two Lady Eagles with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Bison went back to work offensively.
Victoria Ireland and Heather Picard singled and Leigey followed with a double for her second RBI. One out later Vanderburgh came through with her key hit and then scored the final run on a wild pitch.
Hoffman went the distance and racked up 13 strikeouts and walked two. She gave up six hits, three by Kelsey Emeigh, and one earned run.
Vanderburgh and Leigey each had a pair of hits for the Lady Bison, who will be back home Monday for an ML game against Penns Valley.
