Penns Creek Bridge Work Starts Wednesday

Detour will be in place

STATE COLLEGE – On behalf of Gov. Tom Corbett, PennDOT has announced that work to replace a bridge on Route 2012 (Penns Creek Road) will get under way Wednesday.

Once work is complete, PennDOT will be able to remove the bridge from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Centre County. Replacement will also provide area drivers with safer, more efficient travel across a modern structure.

Weather permitting, work will start Wednesday when PennDOT closes the bridge and puts a detour into effect. The detour uses Beaver Dam Road (Township Road 449).

The bridge spans Penns Creek about three miles southwest of the village of Coburn. The bridge was built in 1940, is 150 feet long and carries an average of 250 vehicles each day.

Work is expected to last through late November and includes replacement of the old bridge with a new concrete box beam bridge, approach work, paving, guide rail updates and miscellaneous items. Nestlerode Contracting of Lock Haven is the contractor for this $1 million job.

Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
