WOODLAND – The Animal Welfare Council will be holding its annual plant sale and rabies clinic May 4 at the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic at its new location, 1380 Shawville Hwy., Woodland (adjacent to the Woodland Post Office). The sale will run from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and the rabies clinic will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Numerous plants will be available for sale including flowering potted planters, flowers and shrubs – both perennials and annuals – just in time for Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and spring time planting. There will also be food available at the sale including Pierogies, homemade soup and baked goods.
Donations of plants are needed and anyone wanting to make donations is encouraged to contact the AWC at the telephone numbers listed below for arrangements. They can also be brought the day of the sale. All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible and all proceeds will benefit animals in the area.
Dr. Vangorder will be administering the vaccine for the rabies clinic and the cost is $12 per animal. Pennsylvania law requires who own or keep a dog or cat over three months of age to have them vaccinated against rabies. Rabies prevention according to the CDC includes the following:
- Visit your veterinarian with your pet on a regular basis and keep rabies vaccinations up-to-date for all cats, ferrets and dogs to prevent them from acquiring the disease from other animals or wildlife, and thereby transmitting it to humans.
- Maintain control of your pets by keeping cats and ferrets indoors and keeping dogs under direct supervision.
- Spay or neuter your pets to help reduce the number of unwanted pets that may not be properly cared for or vaccinated regularly. Call animal control to remove all stray animals from your neighborhood since these animals may be unvaccinated or ill.
The Animal Welfare Council is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that operates the Allegheny Spay & Neuter Clinic. The clinic provides the low-cost spaying and neutering of companion animals, Frontline Flea & Tick Medication, in addition to micro-chipping, Clearfield County Dog License and rabies, distemper, Lyme’s Disease vaccines and a pet food pantry to help support animals in need throughout the area.
